Privacy policy
Privacy policy
Crucial Tracking is a registered trading name of Paramount Software Pty Ltd (ABN 88 151 745 550). We sell GPS trackers, data plans and access to our tracking platform, and we take your privacy seriously. This policy explains what personal information we collect when you use this store, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the choices and rights you have. It covers crucialtracking.com.au and the ordering, account and support features on it.
We handle personal information in line with Australian privacy law and the Australian Privacy Principles.
What we collect
- Identity and contact details — your name, email address, phone number, and the delivery and billing addresses you give us when you place an order or get in touch.
- Order details — what you bought, your order and subscription history, and the messages you send us through our contact, callback and quote forms.
- Account details — if you create a store account, the login details and preferences held against it, so you can track orders and manage your subscriptions.
- Payment details — payments are processed by Shopify's payment providers. Your card is entered directly with them, and we never see or store your full card number — we only receive confirmation of the payment and the details needed to fulfil and support your order.
- Device and usage data — like most websites, we and our providers use cookies and similar technologies to record things like your device type, browser, pages viewed and how you reached us, so the store works and we can measure how it's performing. See Cookies and analytics below.
- Tracker location data — where you run a tracker on one of our data plans, the device reports its location to our tracking platform. See Location data below for how that works.
Why we collect it, and on what basis
We only collect what we need to run the store and support you. That means: taking and fulfilling your orders, running your subscriptions and platform access, answering enquiries and providing support, processing returns and warranty claims, keeping the store secure and working, meeting our tax and legal obligations, and — where you've opted in — sending you marketing. We collect this information directly from you, and generate some of it (like order and usage records) as you use the store.
Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with the providers we rely on to run the store, and only as far as they need it to do their job:
- Shopify — hosts this store and its checkout and accounts on our behalf.
- Payment processors — Shopify's payment providers, who handle your payment securely.
- Shipping carriers — to deliver your order and give you tracking.
- Google — for website analytics and advertising measurement (see below).
- Our tracking-platform provider — which runs the platform your tracker reports to.
- Apps that support store features — trusted apps connected to the store that help it function, each limited to the data their feature needs.
We may also disclose information where the law requires it, or to protect our rights, our customers or others.
Cookies and analytics
We use cookies and similar technologies to keep the store working (for example, remembering your cart and keeping your session secure) and to understand how people use it. For measurement we use Google Analytics and Google Ads conversion measurement, which set cookies and collect usage data so we can see how the store performs and how well our advertising works. This helps us improve the store; it is not used to identify you personally to us.
You can control cookies through your browser settings — most browsers let you block or delete them, though the store may not work as well if you do. You can also opt out of Google's analytics and advertising cookies using Google's own tools, including the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on (tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout) and your Google ad settings (adssettings.google.com).
Marketing
We only send you marketing emails if you've opted in — for example by subscribing to our newsletter. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any marketing email, or by contacting us. We'll still send you the essential emails tied to your orders, subscriptions and support, because those aren't marketing.
Location data
When you run a Crucial Tracking device on one of our data plans, the tracker sends its location to our tracking platform, and you log in to the platform to see it. This is the core of the product, so it's worth being clear about how it works:
- You choose what you track. You decide which vehicle, asset or item a tracker goes on, and the location data belongs to your account.
- You're responsible for lawful use. You must only track vehicles, assets or items you own or otherwise have the right and consent to track. Using a tracker to monitor a person or a vehicle without the proper right or consent may be against the law — that's on you, not us.
- Access. Location data is available to you through your platform login. We access it only to run and support the service you've asked us to provide — for example, to help you troubleshoot, or where we run the tracking for you as a managed service.
- We don't sell it, and we don't share it. Your tracking history is not sold, rented or passed to third parties for their own purposes — not to advertisers, not to data brokers, not to insurers. The only other party that touches it is our tracking-platform provider, which runs the platform on our behalf and uses the data for nothing else. Beyond that we disclose location data only where the law requires it.
- Retention. Location history is kept while your plan is active so you can view trips and reports, and is removed after your plan ends in line with the Keeping your information section below.
Platform access is included with our data plans — you can log in from our platform page.
Keeping your information
We keep your personal information only as long as we need it for the purposes above, and to meet our legal, tax and accounting obligations — after which we delete it or de-identify it. Order and payment records are generally kept for the period required by Australian law; tracker location history is kept while your plan is active, as described above.
How we protect it
We take reasonable steps to protect your information from misuse, loss, and unauthorised access — including through the security controls of the platforms we rely on, such as Shopify and its payment providers. No online service can be completely secure, but we work to keep your data safe.
Your rights
Under Australian privacy law and the Australian Privacy Principles you can ask us to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you.
- Correct it if it's wrong or out of date.
- Delete it, where we're not required to keep it.
Just contact us using the details below and we'll help. If you're not happy with how we've handled your information or a privacy request, please raise it with us first — we'd like the chance to put it right. If we can't resolve it, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au.
