Dual-network 4G GPS trackers in Australia

Telstra + Optus networks

Two networks, one SIM.

A dual-network GPS tracker carries one SIM that can connect on either of two mobile networks instead of being tied to one. Your tracker uses the network coverage provided by Telstra and Optus. If one network isn’t available where your vehicle is, the tracker can connect on the other. Watch it live from your phone.

How the SIM works

How does a dual-network SIM work in a GPS tracker?

Every Crucial Tracking data plan ships with a SIM that works across both the Telstra and Optus mobile networks. The SIM isn't tied to one carrier: the tracker connects to whichever of the two networks it can see at the time, so if one network isn't available where your vehicle or asset is, the tracker can connect on the other.

Two networks instead of one removes a single point of failure, but no mobile network covers all of Australia, and reception in any given spot depends on terrain, buildings and distance to the nearest tower.

  • One SIM, both networks

Every Crucial Tracking data plan ships with a SIM that works across both the Telstra and Optus mobile networks.

  • Not tied to one carrier

The SIM isn't tied to one carrier: the tracker connects to whichever of the two networks it can see at the time.

  • The bands both networks use

Our trackers are 4G LTE devices and support the frequency bands both networks use in Australia, including the 700 MHz band that carries most regional coverage.

Why buy here

What should you check before buying a 4G GPS tracker?

Four things. Whether the SIM can use more than one network or is locked to one carrier. Where your tracking data is stored and who runs the platform. Whether the full hardware spec is published, bands and update rate included. And whether a person in Australia answers the phone when you call. Each one is below.

Tracker and plan

What does a 4G GPS tracker cost all up?

The tracker’s price is the same with or without a plan, and it’s shown live below. The first year of the plan you pick is included; from year two it renews at its normal price, $7/mo on Power Saver or $10/mo on Real-Time, or billed once a year, two months cheaper than paying monthly, until you cancel. No minimum term. Free delivery, Australia wide. Prices in AUD, GST included.

Want the tracker on its own, or platform access without a SIM? Choose that on the tracker’s page.

Every tracker needs its own SIM, so plans match the tracker count.

Tracking plan

Your first year is included either way. This is the plan that carries on after it, billed yearly.

How it works

How does GPS tracking work with a 4G tracker?

The tracker takes its position from GPS satellites and sends it over the 4G mobile network to our platform, every 10 seconds on Real-Time or every 2 minutes on Power Saver. You open the platform in a browser or on your phone and see the vehicle on a live map, with its trip history and alerts.

    Choose your tracker

Battery-mount for most vehicles, hardwired where theft protection comes first, plug-in OBD for the quickest fit, battery-powered for trailers and gear — then pick the plan that fits.

  2. 02

    Fit it

Plug a plug-in tracker in under the dash in seconds, fit a battery-mount tracker's two wires to the battery, wire a hardwired one in yourself or via an auto electrician, or cable-tie or screw a battery-powered one in place.

  3. 03

    Track it live

Open the platform on your phone or desktop and watch it move — live position, trip history, alerts and geofences, all included with your plan.

Networks

Which networks does the SIM use?

Every Crucial Tracking data plan ships with a SIM that works across both the Telstra and Optus mobile networks. The SIM isn't tied to one carrier: the tracker connects to whichever of the two networks it can see at the time.

Will it work where I am?

Your tracker uses the network coverage provided by Telstra and Optus, Australia's two largest mobile networks. If one network isn't available where your vehicle or asset is, the tracker can connect on the other.

Two networks instead of one removes a single point of failure, but no mobile network covers all of Australia, and reception in any given spot depends on terrain, buildings and distance to the nearest tower. Out of range, most of our trackers keep logging positions and send the trail when they reconnect — each tracker's specifications say whether it does. Not sure about your patch? Call us on 0413 418 743 before you buy and we'll check.

Do the trackers support the right 4G bands?

Our trackers are 4G LTE devices and support the frequency bands both networks use in Australia, including the 700 MHz band that carries most regional coverage. The full band list is on each product page and in the comparison table.

Can I bring my own SIM?

Yes. Any active Australian 4G data SIM works in our trackers — the tracker's page says which SIM size it takes. Platform access isn't included with the tracker alone: pick "With platform access only (No SIM or data)" on the tracker page (first year included, then $5/mo or $50/yr), or take one of our data plans, where it's included.

Plans & renewals

What happens after the first year?

Your plan renews at its normal price: $7/mo or $70/yr for Power Saver, $10/mo or $100/yr for Real-Time. Same SIM, same platform, nothing else to buy. We'll email you before the first renewal.

How do I cancel?

There's no minimum term. Stop the automatic renewal any time from your account (Manage subscriptions), or email team@crucialtracking.com.au or call 0413 418 743 and we'll stop the next renewal. The tracker is yours to keep. Once the plan ends, power the tracker down or fit your own SIM. Full terms are in our subscription policy and refund policy.

What's included in the plan?

The SIM, the data and full access to the platform: live tracking, trip history, alerts, geofences and PDF reports. Power Saver reports every 2 minutes; Real-Time reports every 10 seconds. There's no separate platform fee.
