4G GPS trackers for caravans, boats, trailers and site gear

Know it’s still where you left it.

A 4G asset GPS tracker is a small device fixed to a caravan, boat, trailer or piece of equipment that reports where it is over the mobile network, with or without a battery to wire to. See each one from home on one live map, and hear about it if one moves. Wire a tracker onto its battery, or fit a battery-powered one and leave it. Your tracker uses the network coverage provided by Telstra and Optus.

What does a 4G GPS tracker for a caravan, boat or trailer do?

A 4G GPS tracker for a caravan, boat, trailer or piece of equipment is a small box, fixed to the thing itself, that finds where it is from GPS satellites and sends that position over the 4G mobile network to our platform. You see it on a live map from home, in any browser or on your phone, and you hear about it if it moves without you. It suits anything you park, store or leave on site: a caravan in a storage yard, a boat on its trailer, a generator on a job. See what to track for the tracker that fits each one.

Power decides the tracker. A caravan or a boat with its own 12 V or 24 V battery takes a Battery-Mount tracker and reports live. Two wires onto the battery terminals: a spanner is all you need, and anyone can fit it. A trailer or site gear with no power of its own takes a battery-powered tracker, screwed, bolted or cable-tied on with no wiring: Rechargeable where you can top it up between jobs, Long-Life Battery where you fit it once and leave it. It reports on a schedule, and its battery life depends on how much it moves.

Each tracker’s price is shown on its page and in the builder below, the same with or without a plan. A tracker that’s on its way carries a note on its card, and you can ask to be emailed when it’s in stock. The first year of the plan you pick is included; from year two it renews at its normal price, $7/mo on Power Saver or $10/mo on Real-Time, or billed once a year, two months cheaper than paying monthly, until you cancel. No minimum term. Free delivery, Australia wide. Prices in AUD, GST included.

How it works

How do you fit a GPS tracker to a caravan, boat or trailer?

It depends on whether it has a battery. A caravan or boat with its own 12 V battery takes a Battery-Mount tracker: two wires onto the terminals. A box trailer or a generator with no power takes a battery-powered tracker, screwed, bolted or cable-tied on. The SIM arrives fitted and active; open the platform and it’s on the map.

Which tracker fits a caravan, boat or trailer?

It comes down to power. A caravan or a boat with its own 12 V battery takes a Battery-Mount tracker, two wires onto the terminals, and reports live. Site gear with no power takes a Battery-Powered tracker that reports on a schedule: Rechargeable where you can top it up between jobs, Long-Life Battery where you fit it once and leave it.

Does the caravan, boat or trailer have a battery?

That decides the tracker. With a 12 V or 24 V battery on board, wire a Battery-Mount tracker to it and it reports live. With no power at all, fit a battery-powered tracker: Rechargeable if you can charge it between trips, Long-Life Battery to fit once and leave. Battery life depends on how much it moves.

It has its own 12 V or 24 V battery Battery-Mount
Two wires straight onto the caravan’s or boat’s battery — no ignition wire, nothing to recharge. On a boat, fit it somewhere sheltered: it’s rated IP65 and isn’t made to go under water.
Nothing to wire to, and you can recharge it between trips Rechargeable
No wiring, and you recharge it between trips (charger not included) — suits a trailer with no battery of its own.
Nothing to wire to, and it sits for a long stretch Long-Life Battery
No wiring and nothing to charge — for trailers, containers, generators and plant you fit once and leave.

Battery-powered trackers report on a schedule

With a battery-mount tracker, geofence the driveway or the storage yard: if the caravan or boat moves without you, your phone gets an alert as it happens. A battery-powered tracker reports on its schedule, so how soon you hear depends on how often it’s set to report.

Before you buy

What should you check before buying a tracker for a caravan, boat or trailer?

Australian compliance

Ours: The Regulatory Compliance Mark, on our trackersRequired for all GPS tracking devices in Australia.

Watch out for

No compliance mark.

A tracker without compliance: is that something you’re comfortable connecting to your vehicle?

The SIM

Ours: Dual-network, or your own

Watch out for

Locked to the seller’s SIM.

Leave that seller and you own an expensive paperweight. Is that what you’re buying?

Update rate

Ours: Every 10 seconds, or every 2 minutes

Watch out for

One rate, set by the seller

Your car just rolled into an underground car park. Your last update was minutes ago. Where is it now?

The tracker

Ours: Vehicle trackers for vehicles. Asset trackers for assets.

Watch out for

One device that doesn’t excel at anything

Don’t buy a Long-Life Battery asset tracker by mistake when what you need is real-time vehicle tracking.
