Plans & SIMs

Do I need a data plan?

Yes — every GPS tracker needs a SIM and a data plan to report its position; without one it's just a box. On the CT-V03, CT-V05 and CT-A03, use one of ours ($7/mo Power Saver with 2-minute updates, or $10/mo Real-Time with 10-second updates) — pick it on the tracker page when you buy the tracker and its first year is included — or bring your own SIM. Our other trackers are sold outright with your own SIM.

Can I bring my own SIM?

Yes. Buy any of our trackers outright and you're free to run your own SIM and data plan in it (the CT-A01 is the exception — it needs a Telstra Business IoT SIM). Platform access isn't included without a plan — it comes with one of ours. Our plans exist because most people would rather have the tracker, plan and platform on one bill — but BYO is a first-class option, not a workaround.

What networks does the SIM use?

Every Crucial Tracking data plan ships with a SIM that works across both the Telstra and Optus mobile networks. The SIM isn't tied to one carrier: the tracker connects to whichever of the two networks it can see at the time. Two networks instead of one removes a single point of failure, but no mobile network covers all of Australia, and reception in any given spot depends on terrain, buildings and distance to the nearest tower. More on the dual-network SIM.

Can I move a plan SIM to another tracker?

Not on your own. The SIM that comes with a Crucial Tracking data plan is IMEI-locked to the tracker it's set up with, so it only works in that device. Replacing a tracker, or want the plan on another CT-V03, CT-V05 or CT-A03? Email team@crucialtracking.com.au or call 0413 418 743 and support can re-pair the SIM to the new tracker.

Are you part of Telstra or Optus?

No. Crucial Tracking is independent. We're not affiliated with, endorsed by, or an agent of Telstra or Optus. Every Crucial Tracking data plan ships with a SIM that works across both the Telstra and Optus mobile networks; the tracker, the plan, the platform and the support come from us, not from a carrier.

What happens after the first year?

Your plan renews at its normal price: $7/mo or $70/yr for Power Saver, $10/mo or $100/yr for Real-Time. Same SIM, same platform, nothing else to buy. Cancel any time — there's no minimum term.

What does a tracker cost, all up?

$139 — that's the tracker, with or without a plan. Pick a plan on the tracker page when you buy (Power Saver $7/mo or $70/yr, Real-Time $10/mo or $100/yr) and its first year is included: SIM, data and full platform access, nothing more to pay in year one. From year two the plan renews at its normal price until you cancel, and there's no minimum term, so the minimum total cost is $139. That covers our current-generation trackers — the CT-V03, CT-V05 and CT-A03. Older models (CT-V04, CT-A02, CT-A01) are $179, sold outright only with your own SIM and no included year.

Do yearly plans cost less?

Yes — an Annual plan costs two months less than paying monthly ($70/yr Power Saver versus $84 over twelve months; $100/yr Real-Time versus $120). Year one costs the same whichever cadence you pick, because the first year is included with the tracker; the saving shows up from year two, when the plan renews at $70/yr or $100/yr instead of $7/mo or $10/mo.

How do I cancel a plan?

Self-serve from your account (Manage subscriptions), or contact support and we'll cancel it. There's no minimum term. Monthly plans stop at the end of the paid month — payments already made aren't refunded. Annual plans renew each year until cancelled: cancel within 30 days of a renewal for a full refund of that payment; after that we may offer a partial refund case by case. Cancelling during the included first year simply ends the plan — there's nothing to refund and nothing further to pay, and the tracker is yours: you bought it outright at $139. The tracker itself is covered by the 30-day returns policy separately. Full details in our subscription policy and refund policy.

What SIM does the CT-A01 need?

The CT-A01 takes a Telstra Business IoT SIM only — none of our store data plans cover it. That's why it's sold outright, with the SIM requirement flagged before you buy rather than discovered after. If you'd rather have everything on one bill, choose the CT-A03 instead.

Devices

Which tracker suits my situation?

Match the device to the job: hardwired CT-V03 for vehicles you want protected, plug-in CT-V05 for convenience, battery-powered CT-A03 for anything without power — trailers, boats, gear. The older CT-V04, CT-A02 and CT-A01 are still available, sold outright with your own SIM. Compare all trackers or pick your path on the Solutions page.

How long do asset tracker batteries last?

The CT-A02 runs about a year between charges; the rechargeable CT-A03 up to 70 days per charge; the CT-A01 stretches to three years. Less frequent reporting means longer life, which is why the $7/mo Power Saver plan suits gear that mostly sits still.

Will it work where I am?

Your tracker uses the network coverage provided by Telstra and Optus, Australia's two largest mobile networks. If one network isn't available where your vehicle or asset is, the tracker can connect on the other. Two networks instead of one removes a single point of failure, but no mobile network covers all of Australia, and reception in any given spot depends on terrain, buildings and distance to the nearest tower. Out of range, the tracker keeps logging and reports the trail when signal returns. All our trackers are 4G — 2G/3G networks are switched off in Australia, so beware older trackers still sold online. Unsure about your area? Send us the postcode and we'll check before you buy.

Platform

What platform do I get?

The Open Platform — our own system at platform.crucialtracking.com.au, hosted in Australia. Live map, alerts, trip history, PDF reports, live traffic, automatic backups and integrations, all included with every monthly plan, yearly plan and the managed service. Buying a tracker outright without a plan doesn't include platform access. See what the platform does.

Where do I log in?

The Open Platform at platform.crucialtracking.com.au — one login for everyone. Your store account — orders, subscriptions and details — is at /account/login.

Where is my tracking data hosted?

On our own platform on Australian servers. We're not reselling an offshore white-label — which means your stored movement history stays in Australia, and support comes from the people who run the system.

Shipping & returns

How fast is shipping?

Free shipping Australia-wide on orders over $79. We ship multiple times a week, and orders typically dispatch within 1–2 business days. We hold stock locally — no drop-shipping, no three-week mystery from overseas.

What's the returns policy?

Changed your mind? Request a refund within 30 calendar days of delivery — full refund once the item is back with us complete and in original condition (original packaging and all accessories). Incomplete returns may incur a 20% restocking fee. We can't accept items damaged during installation. 12-month warranty on all devices. The full details are in our refund policy.

What does the warranty cover?

Every tracker comes pre-tested and with a 12-month warranty. If a device fails in normal use, contact us and we'll sort it — we stock and support our own hardware, so you're dealing with us, not a supplier three time zones away.
